Enhanced Login Security FAQs

What is Enhanced Login Security?

Enhanced Login Security requires online users to provide something additional beyond today's username and password to login. This enhanced security means that even if a user has his or her password stolen in a phishing attack or by malicious software, fraudsters cannot access online accounts because they do not possess the additional factors needed (the answer to your challenge question), which are harder to steal.

How does the Enhanced Login Security feature work?

When you choose to set up the extra security protection on your computer, it places a secure cookie in your browser so the next time you log in from that computer, the system recognizes that you are logging in from a trusted location, and it grants you access without any additional information. When you log in from a computer without the extra protection, the system will recognize that and prompt you to answer your challenge question, to which only you should know the answer. If your answer is correct, access will be granted.

What will the first login after Enhanced Login Security (ELS) is enabled look like?

After entering your user name and password like normal, you will be prompted to select your challenge question and answer (this is used for the forgotten password and ELS feature). After you click "Continue", you will be asked whether or not you would like to add additional security to your computer. If you are at the PC that you most commonly log in from, then you should add the extra security. If you are not, you can add it at a later time.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a message given to a Web browser by a Web server. The browser stores the message in a text file. The message is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.

Is the cookie that is placed on my computer dangerous?

No, the cookie is a secure piece of data that uniquely identifies you. It is encrypted, and no member information is stored within it.

What if I clear out the cookies on my computer, will it affect the new security feature?

Yes, if you clear out your cookies the ELS cookie will also be deleted. You will be prompted to answer your challenge question the next time you log in. You can re-install the cookie once you gain access to your account by clicking on User Options, Enhanced Login Security.

What requirements do I need to add the extra security to my computer?

You will need access to Online Banking via the Internet. You will have to use an Internet browser that has at least 128 bit encryption with cookies enabled.

How do I add the extra security to my computer/browser?

Step 1: Click on Continue on ELS Prompt screen, or go to User Options-Enhanced Login Security

Step 2: On the Enhanced Login Security screen, leave the first (default) radio button selected, and click on Submit.

Step 3: On the popup window, click on OK. The ELS feature puts a cookie on your computer/browser.

Step 4: A success screen displays.

How do I remove the extra security protection from my computer/browser?

Step 1: Go to User Options-Enhanced Login Security

Step 2: On the Enhanced Login Security screen, select the second radio button, and click on Submit.

Step 3: On the popup window, click on OK. The ELS removes the cookie from your computer/browser.

Step 4: A success screen displays. *Please Note: You are still enrolled in ELS! So if you log in again from this or any computer that is not enrolled, you will not be allowed into the Online Banking session until you provide the answer to your challenge question.

You should only select this removal option if you are not going to be using this computer for Online Banking again.

How many computers/browsers can I add the extra security to? Does Enhanced Login Security work with all browsers?

You can add the extra security to as many computers/browsers as you wish. Enhanced Login Security works with all Digital Insight approved browsers.

I am trying to log into my account and there is a screen asking me for an answer to my challenge question. Why?

You will be asked for an answer to your challenge question if you are trying to log in from a computer/browser that you do not normally use. If you will be using this computer regularly, after you log in you will want to enroll this computer. You may also get prompted to answer your challenge question if you have recently deleted all of your cookies.

Can I create my own challenge question?

No, you have the option to choose from 4 questions, but do not have the option to create your own question.

Are the answers to the challenge questions case sensitive?

No, the answers to the challenge questions are not case sensitive.

How do I access multiple accounts from one computer without having to answer the challenge question?

You will be able to access multiple accounts from the same computer, by selecting/answering a challenge question on each account. After each challenge question is answered for each account, a secure cookie will be stored in the browser for each account.

If I purchase a new computer does it need to be enrolled, and do I need to remove the extra security protection from my old computer?

Yes, any new computer would need to be enrolled for Enhanced Login Security. Old computers can be un-enrolled by logging in to that computer and clicking on User Options, Enhanced Login Security, and then select the "Remove extra security protection from this computer" menu option.

Can the credit union set up my computer with the Enhanced Login Security feature?

Unfortunately, the credit union cannot set up the feature for you, because the Enhanced Login Security feature is based on the computer from which you are logging in. If you wish to add the extra security to your computer/browser, you will need to sign up yourself from the computer/browser you use to log in most.

Will this extra security prevent Trojan logging software from compromising passwords?

No, Enhanced Login Security by itself will not prevent the compromise of passwords.

If I frequently use a public computer to check my account, should I enroll the public PC?

We do not recommend adding the extra security protection to a public PC, because the cookie would remain on that PC until it is removed or was otherwise deleted. This may allow an unauthorized person access to your account. If someone stole your login information, the challenge question to get access to your account would not be asked. Instead of enrolling the public computer, you should just continue to login with your challenge question each time.

I cannot remember the answer to my challenge question. How can I gain access to my account from a computer without the extra security?

You can contact the credit union at (586) 276-3000, and we can reset your account for you. This will remove the Enhanced Login Security completely from all enrolled computers.  The next time you are at the computer you frequently use you will need to re-enroll. You will also be prompted to set up your challenge question again.

What if I have my computer set to not accept cookies?

The current browser setting requirements are not changing with the new Enhanced Login Security feature. Currently, the enablement of cookies is required for Online Banking.

I've gotten into my Online Banking from another computer and it's not asking me for my challenge question(s) as I expected. Why?

Have we reset your password since the last time you logged in? If we have, resetting your password also removes you from the security feature. Please log in to your account and re-enroll your computer by clicking on User Options, and then the Enhanced Login Security link.

Is there a fee to set up the Enhanced Login Security on my account?

No. This is an added benefit.

I was using account aggregation software and now it does not work?

Unfortunately, the program you were previously using may no longer be able to access your Online Banking information. Most account aggregation software is not designed to work with Enhanced Login Security. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
