Identity Theft Increased in 2008

February 23, 2009

Even with precautions the number of people victimized by identity theft is on the rise. Criminals are becoming even more creative every day. The smartest thing you can do as a consumer is to be aware and alert.

Protect yourself!

  • Monitor your credit report
  • Protect your personal information
  • Watch out for scams
Most thefts result from:
  • Stolen wallets and credit cards
  • Mail theft
  • “Dumpster diving” (Retrieving un-shredded information from a trash can)
  • Information stolen by friends or relatives
  • Phishing and Vishing

By staying aware and alert you can help protect yourself from becoming a victim of identity theft.

Please remember that Extra Credit Union will NEVER e-mail, text or call you seeking account numbers or passwords.
