Middle School students become knowledgeable consumers and regular savers through our Money in the Middle program. Students learn:
- Financial literacy, which includes terminology, savings, goal setting and loans
- The importance of investing money wisely
- The benefits of using Extra Credit Union products and services
- Hands-on work experience and interviewing skills for students who oversee the operations Credit Union Day, which is student-run
The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students run this program, supervised by a credit union employee. The students:
- Fill out a job application
- Interview for their desired position
- Train as tellers, bookkeepers and computer operators
To encourage saving:
- Each student who opens an account receives a punch card with 20 spots
- Each deposit gets one punch
- After 10 deposits, the student can choose a prize
- The school receives $1 for each new account opened during the school year
